Change Default Remote Desktop (RDP) hearing port for server
After this heading you must be thinking why the hell I need to change my default port for my Remote Desktop connection. Answer is simple if you have to share remote desktop of multiple computer of your local network to real world internet you have two option
1) Give client a VPN connection make them a part of your network and then let them access your machine remotely.
2) Configure your router/modem to forward a port for a particular IP in your local network so only that computer will be accessible to external world.
It�s easily understood that First option is tough as well as not good for security while second option is much easier and more secured too. Limitation with second option of port forwarding is that you can configure only one computer accessible at one time so change the ports for RDP hearing port and share as many as you want.
For changing default port of RDP we need to do a change in Registry so I would recommend you to continue if you are little bit familiar with Registry
1. Start Registry Editor. Start->run->regedit and press enter/
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber
3. On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
4. Type the new port number, and then click OK.
5. Quit Registry Editor.
For connecting to remote desktop connection you should give port along with IP or server name of the client connection.
For allow this connection to real world you need to do a port forwarding at your modem/router. For port forwarding setting you would need to check with your modem/router provider what you need to do.
