Windows 8 on AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Acer T180
I bought this computer at wall mark. It was like 550$ taxes included. Very cheap, you would recommend it to every non-geek. It came with a very cheap mouse with a very cheap standard black keyboard. It came with Windows Vista Service Pack 0 home edition. Honestly, I was so poor that time; I couldn�t offer a big computer. Besides, is not a bad computer. Is cheap and that is what you get for.
What is interesting is that I have to buy more Ram because honestly, the basic RAM inside the T180 was clearly not enough. At work, I had one of the first original Intel dual core with 1 Go of RAM and the computer was much faster.
And the card reader never worked. I checked for driver and forum. It seems that everyone who bought this computer had problems with it. Is simple, it doesn�t read. Only the USB slot works. I don�t understand how cnet said in the Pros that the card reader was thumbs up.
Anyway, the screen died a year after I bought the computer and the hard drive died too a bit after. I think the hard drive worked less than 2 years. It�s very frustrating because I haven�t done a good and complete backup of my personal picture. Yea, I used to burn them on DVDs and because I make a lot of photos with my small Canon 4 Mpx, � anyway.
I finally bought 2 Hard drive at 250 Go each. On that time, those are the biggest available at a fair price. Remember, I am poor and I didn�t want to invest a lot of money on a old computers series.
All the other stuff is still good. The design of the computer is still nice even today. Power supply never died and my 21 inch screen is doing fine. Oh by the way. I installed the cheapest video card available at that time. It was at 49$ : ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro (no fan) I hate when there is a fan. Fan always makes noise.
Oh, before I forget, USB3 ready or new usb device won�t work on my AMD Athlon 64 with Vista on it. There is no valid driver or anything. There is no geek in this world to build something to patch it�. Well I can�t blame them. Shame on me for using Vista for a so long time.
There is one thing I will never forget on this computer, is the processor. We heard a lot of good thing on AMD processor. In that time, AMD processor calculates more but heats more. They are slightly cheaper than Intel and are good for gaming. They are more aggressive and put a lot of energy on research. Has far as my memory recalls, they first introduced a processor chip 32bits and 64 bit ready. That is why the processor is called AMD Athlon 64. One of the first single core chip ready for 64 architecture. Intel was only maintaining Pentium 4 and Pentium M for the single core, and working on multi-core for their market.
Anyway, I think AMD made a good choice making their computer ready for the future instead of Intel. It is possible to install and run a Windows 8 while is impossible to install it on a Pentium 4. Windows 8 on my AMD Athlon 64 give me about the same performance compared to Vista Home. So performance is even. What is interesting is the USB slot could now read every type of device (External HDD, and more)
I watched a video (avi or mpg) and the performance is the same that before.
I haven�t tested the card readers. I think a got used to. But I�ll test them later this week or the next one.
I made a video and simple go after a few feature in Windows 8. You see that is not that bad at all. They computer is not slow or impossible to work with. The internet speed is fair and is perfect for my mother who doesn�t know how a computer works. It�s a 3 or 4 minutes video.

Also, I am still happy to see that the AMD 64 3800 is still a good processor even in 2012. It is almost an 8 years processor.
